Maestro Yoritsune Matsudaira and that age:The pioneer of Japanese contemporary music

Yoritsune Matsudaira is a world-renowned composer considered to be the founder of Japanese contemporary music. His masterpiece “Theme and Variations for Piano and Orchestra” is renowned for being the only work by a Japanese composer for which the world-famous conductor Herbert von Karajan waved the baton during his lifetime. This exhibition introduces the path of Matsudaira Yorinori, a musician who continued to challenge the world.

  • Location:Ibaraki Prefectural Archives and Museum(Mito City)
  • Opening hours:9:30am – 5pm(Admission until 4:30pm)
  • Closed on Mondays
    The admission fee is free only on November 13(Monday) due to Ibaraki Prefectural Citizens Day.

Exhibition「YASUO KUNIYOSHI~DISTURBING DREAM」

茨城県近代美術館

The exhibition introduces, with the latest research results, the diverse work and life of the painter Yasuo Kuniyoshi, who moved to the United States alone at the age of 16, studied painting while working, and eventually became one of the United States’s representative painters.
